Job Title
Animal Welfare, Community Development and Livelihood Facilitator
Reports To
Animal Welfare, Community Development and Livelihood Officer
Main Purposes of the Job
To collaborate with communities in identifying, planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies to improve the welfare of working donkeys and mules while enhancing the livelihoods of individuals dependent on these animals.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Project Development
- Identify key welfare issues for donkeys and mules within the community.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to gather information for community engagement.
- Participate in assessments to inform program design based on local needs.
- Engage with the community to develop impact indicators reflecting ASDEPO’s objectives.
Program Implementation
- Target and engage model donkey and mule owners for awareness and behavioral change initiatives.
- Provide training in donkey and mule welfare to local development agents and stakeholders.
- Monitor and support the integration of training into extension plans.
- Work with community groups to promote better husbandry practices.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Facilitate monthly meetings to collect and report on progress.
- Use monitoring tools to assess community engagement and environmental measures.
- Develop and submit quality progress reports to supervisors.
Documentation, Learning, and Sharing
- Support research efforts, documenting best practices and lessons learned.
- Prepare monthly program updates for dissemination.
General Responsibilities
- Work closely with various community sectors to enhance animal welfare.
- Regularly meet with community groups to demonstrate effective animal handling and welfare practices.
- Manage ASDEPO resources in accordance with organizational policies.
- Promote adherence to ASDEPOβs community engagement models.
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
- B.Sc. in Development Planning, Project Management, Agriculture, or related fields.
- Minimum five years of experience in community engagement related to animal welfare.
- Proven experience in program development and report writing.
Desirable:
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation practices.
Skills and Abilities
Essential:
- Excellent IT skills, particularly in MS Office.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- The candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively manage diverse relationships.
Desirable:
- Basic English; fluency in Amharic and local languages is advantageous.
