About the Organization
ECC‑SDCBOM is a faith-based NGO implementing social development programs in the Vicariate of Meki. As a consortium partner, ECC‑SDCBOM is delivering the Realizing Aspirations of Youth in Ethiopia Through Employment (RAYEE II) program, funded by the MasterCard Foundation and led by SNV. This five-year program aims to promote youth employment, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment across Oromia and Central Ethiopia regions.
Position Summary
The Senior Agribusiness – Horticulture & Crop Officer will directly implement horticulture and crop value chain activities, focusing on local agribusiness opportunities, youth-led enterprise growth, and practical market linkages. The role involves close collaboration with rural youth, MSEs, cooperatives, unions, private sector stakeholders, and government partners to ensure sustainable income and employment outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Value Chain Implementation: Lead horticulture/crop value chain and market systems interventions, tailoring activities to local contexts and addressing systemic constraints.
- Enterprise Growth & Market Linkages: Map and support youth-led MSEs in horticulture/crops, enabling diversification and expansion. Facilitate linkages with suppliers, buyers, processors, and cooperatives.
- Capacity Building: Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical support to rural youth and women-led enterprises engaged in horticulture and crop businesses.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Organize and facilitate multi-stakeholder platforms to address systemic challenges in input/output markets and strengthen collaboration with private sector, cooperatives, and local government.
- Monitoring, Learning & Adaptation: Track implementation progress against work plans, ensure quality standards, and contribute to program-level income and employment targets.
About You
Qualifications:
- MSc/MA or BSc/BA in Agricultural Development, Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agribusiness, Agricultural Marketing/Economics, or related fields.
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years relevant experience (MSc/MA holders) or 10 years (BSc/BA holders) in horticulture/crop value chain development and agribusiness, with proven success in direct field implementation.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong market analysis and business planning capabilities.
- Ability to design crop-based economic opportunities.
- Knowledge of crop production policies, market trends, and trade regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, financial modeling tools (Excel), and GIS mapping.
- Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) skills for tracking agribusiness impact.
- Strong stakeholder coordination with government, cooperatives, and private sector actors.
Other Requirements:
- Willingness to travel frequently to project locations.
- Commitment to field-based work with resilience and adaptability.
- Effective communication in English and local languages.
- NGO experience preferred.
