About the Role
The Africa CDC seeks nationals from AU Member States to join the African Volunteers Health Corps (AVoHC) roster as Rapid Responders.
This is a volunteer service opportunity, not an employment contract. Candidates should already be employed or active professionals willing to contribute their expertise when mobilized by Africa CDC.
The Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) experts will support African Union Member States by strengthening national and subnational systems for emergency risk communication, building trust with communities, and ensuring adherence to public health measures during crises.
Purpose of the Job
Under the Africa CDC Public Health Emergency Incident Management System (IMS), the RCCE expert will provide technical support to incident management teams, Ministries of Health, and other authorities. The role is critical in ensuring effective communication and engagement with communities during public health emergencies.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Strengthen national risk communication policies, outreach strategies, and preparedness capacities.
- Build the capacity of health professionals and stakeholders in risk communication before, during, and after emergencies.
- Support populations and vulnerable groups to adopt protective behaviors by fostering trust and engagement.
- Promote evidence-based risk communication practices (planning, messaging, channels, monitoring, evaluation).
- Support the development and dissemination of tailored public health messages via national and sub-national channels.
Academic Requirements & Experience
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Communication, Social Sciences, Anthropology, or related fields with at least 5 years’ relevant experience.
- OR a Master’s degree in the above fields with at least 2 years’ relevant experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Master’s/PhD) in Public Health, Statistics, Communication, Social Sciences, or Anthropology.
Relevant Experience (at least 3 areas):
- Emergency risk communication.
- Community engagement.
- Social sciences.
- Journalism or media communication.
- Health diplomacy.
- Public health.
Required Skills
Functional Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in risk communication and community engagement.
- Ability to develop and disseminate multimedia products for public health messaging.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and reporting skills.
- Ability to translate technical information into accessible reports, briefings, and presentations.
