Role Overview
As the Senior Programme Officer for Diaspora Engagement, you will be the major link responsible for deepening the African Diaspora’s connection to our 2025 theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.” The mobilisation of Diaspora organizations to contribute to reparations-led justice initiatives will be the main function of this job.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Coordination
Work together with members of the African Diaspora community, AU Member States, and foreign allies to take our 2025 theme further.
Strategic Planning and Programme Delivery
Design and implement strategies that deepen Diaspora engagement in reparatory justice.
Policy and Advocacy Support
Be a helper in the creation of policies and advocacy efforts related to it. Please monitor performance and prepare reports for the decision-making bodies of the AU. Event Coordination: Help with events and meetings at a senior level that have the active participation of the Diaspora.
Specific Responsibilities
Strategic Engagement: Establish strategies for the engagement of the Diaspora stakeholders in an effective manner.
Transcontinental Collaboration: Build ties with partners in the AU, CARICOM, and other international organizations.
Program Development: Work on an African Reparatory Programme of Action.
Coordination and Reporting: Work directly with the member states to report on the progress of the Diaspora’s engagement.
Advocate for the allocation of resources necessary for implementing the theme at the national level.
Conference Support: Hold international events concerned with reparations.
Partnership Development: Establish strong links with the key Diaspora organizations to secure their active participation.
Advocacy and Mobilization: Help by supporting the activities relating to reparatory justice that deal with the past injustices.
Institutional Development: Formulate and create comprehensive strategic plans for newly established institutions to address reparations.
Required Skills
The position requires a deep understanding of reparations and human rights issues.
The candidate should possess strong communication and negotiation skills.
Possess strong organizational and project management skills.
The individual demonstrates proficiency in utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
The combination of research and analytical skills to produce policy recommendations that can be implemented.

The process of developing people enables the creation and application of strategic insight.
Additional Information
Tenure of Appointment
This is a short-term contract position for only six months with no automatic renewal.

Remuneration
