IOM collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental entities to ensure that migration is conducted in a humane and orderly manner. This, in turn, generates good results for all involved.

Job Overview

The National Policy and Liaison Officer is responsible for executing the operational and administrative functions of continental programs in coordination with the Director for the Special Liaison Office (SLO) to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The latter will liaise with the different parties to be sure that they work together smoothly, they will also be in charge of coordinating the execution of the IOM AUC-African Development Bank (AfDB) multi-country project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate with sponsors, collaborators, and stakeholders to make the work easier.
  • Participate in project management and donor reporting on time.
  • Keep an eye on the accountable and financial issues of the AfDB projects that are funded.
  • Be part of the process of writing guidelines on missing migrants in Africa.
  • Assist in generating ideas and introducing the 3rd edition of the Africa Migration Report (AMR).
  • Create work plans, project budgets, and monitoring & evaluation tools.
  • As the program progresses to the implementation stage, it’s crucial to consider the factual requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Political Science, Law, International Relations, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Economics, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience:
    • Experience with African Union Institutions and Regional Economic Communities in migration governance and displacement issues.
    • Proven skills in policy design, implementation, and research on development and migration topics.
    • Strong analytical and drafting skills, with a good understanding of project management and donor relations.
  • Languages:
    • Fluency in English is required.
    • Knowledge of UN and African Union official languages is an advantage.

  • Candidates may be eligible for similar positions for 24 months.
