The Macroeconomic, Finance, and Governance Division (MFGD) supports African member states in achieving inclusive growth through effective planning, improved macroeconomic management, and enhanced public finance mobilization. This position is located in the Macroeconomic Analysis Section and reports to the Director of MFGD.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Economic Affairs Officer, your responsibilities will include:
Economic and Sectoral Analysis
Lead the formulation and management of economic analysis programs, including macroeconomic modeling and forecasting.
Conduct rigorous macroeconomic studies on African development using qualitative and quantitative methods.
Supervise and coordinate a team of economists, ensuring high-quality outputs, including the Economic Report on Africa.
Identify emerging development issues and design programs to address them.
Manage expert group meetings and consultations to finalize work outputs.
Intergovernmental Support
Provide substantive support on macroeconomic issues to intergovernmental bodies.
Represent ECA in various international and regional meetings, advocating for policies and programs.
Technical Cooperation
Develop relationships with senior officials in member governments and provide technical assistance.
Lead or participate in relevant development projects.
Program Support
Oversee the section’s work plan, budget formulation, and administrative matters.
Participate in recruiting consultants and lead missions as a senior expert.
Other Duties
Provide training and guidance within the division and to member states.
Engage in divisional projects and initiatives as required.

Education
Required: Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in economics, macroeconomics, development economics, or a related field.
Preferred: Ph.D. in economics with a specialization in macroeconomics or development economics.
Work Experience
Required: Minimum of ten years of experience in macroeconomic research and policy formulation.
Desirable: Experience in international organizations, central banks, or finance ministries, especially within the African context.
Languages
Required: Fluency in English or French; knowledge of the other is desirable. Proficiency in additional UN languages is a plus.
Assessment
Qualified candidates may undergo an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview.
