Position Overview
JSI seeks a Regional Immunization Advisor (RIA) for the South West Ethiopia region. The RIA will provide technical assistance to regional health bureaus (RHBs) to enhance the delivery of integrated immunization services, focusing on identifying and reaching zero-dose and under-immunized children. This position is key to supporting Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health (MoH) in its efforts to strengthen immunization systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Needs Assessment: Collaborate with RHBs to analyze the current situation regarding zero-dose and under-immunized children, developing joint plans to reduce these numbers in prioritized woredas (33 in total).
- Micro-planning: Ensure targeted woredas have comprehensive micro-plans to identify and map zero-dose children and missed communities.
- Catch-up Vaccinations: Support the planning and execution of catch-up vaccination activities, ensuring clear targets for each woreda and providing technical assistance.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor and analyze the performance of targeted woredas in meeting zero-dose targets, providing monthly feedback to RHBs.
- Integrated Service Delivery: Assist RHBs in planning and coordinating integrated routine immunization activities alongside other health services (e.g., deworming, nutritional activities).
- Advocacy and Training: Participate in capacity-building activities, training health workers on immunization services and disseminating guidelines for integration and catch-up vaccinations.
- Technical Meetings: Co-facilitate regional technical meetings and provide ongoing technical support to RHB and sub-regional levels.
- Coordination: Maintain regular communication with JSI staff in Addis to synchronize project implementation and provide updates on progress.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit updates and reports on performance to donors and the MoH as required.
Qualifications
- Education: Master of Public Health (MPH) or equivalent; first degree in a health-related field.
- Experience: Minimum of eight years in public health, with at least five years focused on routine immunization.
- Data Analysis: Experience in regional-level data analysis is an advantage.
- Regional Familiarity: Proven experience working in the region with a strong understanding of local contexts.
- Facilitation Skills: Demonstrated ability to use adult learning techniques for training and technical assistance.
- Communication & Leadership: Strong organizational, management, and communication skills; ability to influence decisions at various levels.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiar with DHIS2.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English; proficiency in the local language is a plus.
- Travel: Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time.
