We support initiatives in animal health, agriculture, WASH, marketing, and food safety to enhance food security and strengthen livelihoods. Registered in Ethiopia since March 2010, we operate across Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, and Uganda.

Position Details

- Contract Duration: One year with potential extension
Job Summary
The Field Accountant will be responsible for managing financial transactions, including verifying payments and receipts, preparing vouchers, and maintaining accurate financial records in compliance with donor regulations and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Control budgets according to donor regulations and internal policies.
- Maintain adequate documentation for all transactions processed at the field office.
- Review and prepare payment vouchers for daily expenditures, ensuring timely posting in cash books.
- Regularly check the accuracy of budget line expenditures in project financial reports.
- Prepare monthly cash requests at the field level.
- Ensure all transactions are recorded in the accounting system for accurate records.
- Maintain procurement procedures in line with VSF Finance Manuals.
- Ensure compliance with VSF Finance Manuals during staff travel.
- Reconcile cash in safe against petty cash summary records.
- Process cash and cheque payments, providing detailed descriptions of transactions.
- Follow up on timely settlements of advance payments and report overdue items.
- Analyze balances in receivable and payable accounts regularly.
- Summarize employment income tax, pension, and withholding tax deductions monthly.
- Prepare per-diem payments for staff and participants in accordance with internal procedures.
- Manage financial documentation and ensure timely submission to the Addis office.
- Maintain records of financial transactions in line with organization policies.
- Oversee utility and telephone bill payments.
- Track fixed assets and stock records.
- Ensure timely reporting of field transactions to the country office.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Commerce.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in an NGO setting.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics and other financial software is advantageous.
- Strong ICT skills with experience in computerized accounting applications.
- Familiarity with USAID-BHA funding is a plus.
