About the Role
UN Women is seeking an experienced Communications, Advocacy and Campaign (CAC) Manager to lead advocacy efforts around the African Union’s campaign and development of a convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) in Africa. You will provide strategic communications leadership, develop impactful advocacy campaigns, manage media relations, and drive online/social media engagement on this critical initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic alignment and revision of the AU’s EVAWG campaign
- Develop clear strategies and action plans for rolling out the campaign regionally/nationally
- Design an online strategy for stakeholder engagement on the AU EVAWG convention
- Coordinate monitoring, learning and reporting on all campaign activities
- Map and leverage communications assets/capacities of AU departments and partners
- Manage knowledge sharing and content development across online channels
- Build effective advocacy partnerships across the African continent
- Develop marketing/awareness materials (briefings, releases, promos, etc.)
- Implement an engaging social media strategy with infographics and targeted messaging
- Manage media relations, respond to inquiries, and conduct outreach plans
- Collaborate closely with AU working groups to disseminate information
Requirements
- Master’s in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
- 10 years of leadership experience in gender/development communications
- 5+ years working regionally on women’s rights or EVAWG issues in Africa
- Prior experience in campaign management for AU gender programs
- Proven skills in policy dialogue, resource leveraging and partnership building
- Strong media relations and communications/outreach planning abilities
- Experience developing multi-format content (web, print, audio/video)
- Proficiency in English and French required, African language an asset
- Skilled in PowerPoint, design/multimedia software like Canva
