About the Role

UN Women is seeking a Project Officer (Technical Expert) to be seconded to the Ministry of Justice in Addis Ababa. In this role, you will provide technical guidance and support for the implementation of Ethiopia’s 5-year National Strategy on Prevention and Response to Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). You will also coordinate activities under a project addressing conflict-related sexual violence in Amhara, Afar and Tigray regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the National Coordinating Body in rolling out the VAWC strategy
  • Engage member institutions to support strategy implementation
  • Assist the 6 thematic working groups under the National Coordinating Body
  • Support organization of meetings, prepare reports and annual workplans
  • Liaise with regional governments to ensure understanding and implementation of the strategy
  • Support establishment/strengthening of regional coordination mechanisms on VAWC
  • Identify capacity needs and develop training initiatives for stakeholders
  • Contribute to resource mobilization strategies for the strategy rollout
  • Monitor and report on program activities using results-based management tools
  • Coordinate the federal steering committee and regional technical working groups for the conflict-related sexual violence project
  • Conduct field visits to monitor activities in various regions

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Law, Human Rights, Gender Studies, International Development or related fields
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in development programs, project management, coordination, monitoring & evaluation
  • Proven experience in gender equality, women’s empowerment and violence against women/girls
  • Experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills
  • Fluency in English and Amharic required
  • Willingness to travel frequently to regional areas
