The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been operating in Ethiopia since 2000, providing essential services through various programs. The IRC focuses on emergency response and long-term resilience-building across several sectors, including Education, Health, and Community Wellbeing.
Background and Objectives of the TREE Programme
The Transforming Education in Ethiopia (TREE) Programme aims to enhance educational access for marginalized groups, particularly girls. It addresses challenges such as low retention rates and learning outcomes exacerbated by conflicts and the impacts of COVID-19.

- Teacher and school leader development
- English language teaching and learning
- Equity, inclusion, and girls’ education
Scope of Work
The IRC seeks candidates for senior technical positions within the TREE core team, including roles in:
- Curriculum & Teaching
- Educational Leadership
- Learning Assessment
- Gender and Social Inclusion
- Governance and Public Financial Management
- English Language Instruction
- Education Policy Development
- These roles will be based in Addis Ababa or regional offices, with travel required to intervention areas.
Responsibilities
- Support Ethiopian Ministry of Education officials in achieving program goals.
- Develop and implement the program’s strategic approach.
- Lead research and evaluation efforts to improve education access and quality.
- Provide technical assistance for interventions aimed at enhancing educational equity.
Role Requirements
- Proven experience managing large donor-funded programs.
- Strong background in foundational learning and gender inclusion.
- Excellent skills in program design, advocacy, and networking.
- Familiarity with global debates on education and FCDO priorities.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Ethiopian languages is a plus.
