Job Overview

The U.S. Mission in Ethiopia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Economic Specialist within the Economic Section.

 

Responsibilities

The Economic Specialist will:

 

  • Conduct detailed analyses of macroeconomic trends.
  • ·       Facilitate access to key economic decision-makers in both public and private sectors.
  • ·       Support interagency initiatives to advance U.S. economic objectives, including capacity building at the Central Bank and the Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority.
  • ·       Coordinate U.S. Government visits and events.
  • ·       Serve as a backup for the Trade and Investment Specialist.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements

  • Candidates will undergo a background investigation and may require a pre-employment medical examination.
  • Must be able to start work within 4 weeks of receiving agency clearance.

Education

  • A master’s degree in economics, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Statistics is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years in economic research and analysis, or in banking and finance.

Language Proficiency

  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing) is required, including translation abilities.
  • Fluency in Amharic is also required.

Job Knowledge

Candidates should possess:

  • ·       An understanding of U.S. Mission responsibilities and interests.
  • ·       Knowledge of Ethiopia’s economic development goals across various sectors (agriculture, manufacturing, banking and finance, etc.).
  • ·       Familiarity with Ethiopia’s history and socio-cultural landscape.
  • ·       Awareness of regional and international factors influencing U.S. policy and interests.

Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will have:

  • ·       Strong data analysis and communication skills.
  • ·       The ability to evaluate data sources and summarize complex information succinctly.
  • ·       Experience interacting with high-level executives and government officials.
  • ·       Proficiency in creating visual data representations.
  • ·       Knowledge of diplomatic protocol for representational events.
