Background
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is launching the Transforming Education in Ethiopia project (2024-2028) to address educational disparities exacerbated by conflict, climate shocks, and the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative aims to enhance teaching quality and learning outcomes while increasing access to education for marginalized groups, particularly girls.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead a dynamic consortium in crafting an innovative bid for the Transforming Education Programme in Ethiopia (TREE). Based in Addis Ababa, with frequent regional travel, the Consortium Team Leader will report to the Country Director and collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including local and international partners, government ministries, and the donor.
Role Purpose
The Consortium Team Leader will provide comprehensive leadership and management oversight for the project, ensuring alignment with contract objectives and effective team coordination. Responsibilities include:
- Strategic Leadership: Set and communicate the strategic direction and objectives of the program.
- Project Management: Oversee project implementation, ensuring high-quality standards and value for money.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary liaison with FCDO, partners, and key stakeholders.
- Financial Oversight: Manage the project’s budget and ensure compliance with financial protocols.
- Key Responsibilities
- Lead the consortium to achieve project goals and objectives.
- Ensure effective collaboration among partners and stakeholders.
- Monitor and report on project risks and implementation challenges.
- Uphold organizational values, ensuring adherence to safeguarding and ethical standards.
About You
Role Holder Requirements
Essential:
- Advanced degree in education, gender, international development, or related fields; Ph.D. preferred.
- 8-10 years of experience in managing complex, multi-partner programs, particularly in education.
- Proven leadership skills with experience in motivating teams.
- Deep understanding of girls’ education and education delivery in Ethiopia.
Desirable:
- Experience with FCDO contracts.
- Fluency in one or more Ethiopian languages.
