Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to fill the role of Sr. Director – Programs within the Africa (AFR) Area Leadership team. This position is critical in leading the implementation of strategic frameworks designed to tackle the systemic issues surrounding access to adequate and affordable housing. The Sr. Director will also serve as a key thought leader and representative in programmatic and advocacy efforts both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Inspire and lead the programs unit and the regional network, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Strategy Implementation: Oversee the execution of strategic goals, ensuring greater impact and scale for Habitat’s initiatives.
  • Accountability: Maintain accountability for the programs unit’s performance in line with the regional strategy, ensuring clear communication of priorities to all stakeholders.
  • Engagement: Actively engage with the regional network to facilitate strategy implementation, providing expertise and capacity building.
  • MEAL Integration: Ensure Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) practices are integrated throughout all projects and programs.
  • Advocacy Coordination: Enhance advocacy efforts by coordinating across Area Offices (AOs) and the global network.
  • Representation: Act as a key representative in global discussions and initiatives related to Habitat’s advocacy work.
  • Grant Management: Oversee grant management and provide technical support to Resource Development to meet organizational growth objectives.
  • Collaboration: Foster collaboration with HFHI’s global teams, aligning regional priorities with broader organizational goals.
  • Faith and Values Leadership: Uphold and promote HFHI’s Christian values through servant leadership and community engagement.

This position may be based in Kenya (Regional Office) or Ethiopia and requires 30% travel.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Regional Strategic Framework (50%)
    • Ensure delivery of the Area Office strategic framework by holding teams accountable.
    • Support the development of Country Strategy Plans and monitor program delivery.
    • Collaborate on recruitment and alignment processes to ensure organizational effectiveness.
  2. Cross-Team Collaboration (15%)
    • Serve as a liaison with other HFHI departments to promote collaboration and strategy execution.
  3. External Partnerships (5%)
    • Identify and manage contracts with external partners to advance regional objectives.
  4. Programmatic Direction (15%)
    • Advise on programmatic direction, including grant management and advocacy efforts.
  5. Special Projects (15%)
    • Assist the Area Office VP with special projects as needed.

Position Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years in programs, impact, advocacy, or operational support.
  • Leadership: Proven track record in leading high-impact programs, including MEAL and grant management.
  • Change Management: Strong skills in organizational development and project management.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to gather and analyze information for actionable insights.
  • Sector Knowledge: Familiarity with housing or related fields (gender, poverty, climate change, etc.).
  • Regional Expertise: Extensive experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, delivering impactful projects.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong relational skills to build trust and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Team Management: Excellent people management and team leadership skills.
  • Resourcefulness: Ability to lead projects with ambiguity and complexity.
  • Mission Alignment: Commitment to working within a Christian organization and supporting HFHI’s values.
  • Communication Skills: Proficient in written and oral communication in English; knowledge of other regional languages is a plus.
