Job Descriptions

Mission and Objectives:

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. The strategic plan (2022-2025) focuses on three transformative results: ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning, and gender-based violence and harmful practices. This UN Volunteer position will contribute to UNFPA’s efforts in Ethiopia to accelerate progress towards the ICPD and SDGs, with a focus on addressing the negative impacts of COVID-19 on women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage UNFPA’s activities related to gender and social norms, analyzing relevant trends and providing inputs to project formulation, evaluation, joint programming, and national development frameworks.
  • Provide technical inputs on gender mainstreaming to government agencies, NGOs, UN agencies, and other partners, including on women’s empowerment, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and addressing harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).
  • Formulate and design annual work plans on gender and social norms, aligning with government priorities and UNFPA policies.
  • Contribute to quality programming by incorporating lessons learned, new policies, and best practices, and establishing appropriate execution and monitoring mechanisms.
  • Stay abreast of policy developments, analyze relevant documents, and use this knowledge in planning and knowledge sharing.
  • Play a key role in advocacy and resource mobilization efforts, preparing relevant documentation and participating in donor meetings and public events.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant education and experience in gender, social norms, women’s empowerment, and/or program management.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of UNFPA’s mandate and the development context in Ethiopia.
  • This is an opportunity to contribute to UNFPA’s efforts to eliminate harmful practices and promote gender equality in Ethiopia. If you have the required qualifications and are interested, please apply before the closing date of 2024-06-30.
