Mission and Objectives:

  • UNDP is partnering with the Japanese government to support and enhance the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) initiative for promoting dialogue and collaboration on African development.
  • UNDP co-organizes TICAD along with Japan, UN-Office of Special Adviser on Africa, World Bank, and African Union Commission.
  • UNDP hosts a Special Unit for TICAD within its Regional Bureau for Africa (RBA) to provide strategic, substantive, programmatic, technical and operational support.

Context:

  • The UNV will be outposted to the UNDP Regional Service Center in Ethiopia under the direction of the TICAD Unit and Regional Service Center.
  • This aims to strengthen partnerships among UNDP, Japan and African stakeholders like the African Union Commission for operationalizing the TICAD process.

Tasks:

  • Plan and implement TICAD advocacy with Japanese partners like Ministry of Foreign Affairs, JICA, and African Union Commission
  • Liaise with African Union Commission and Japan’s Permanent Mission to strengthen communication and partnerships
  • Translate documents like newsletters and publications from English to Japanese
  • Disseminate TICAD information products, collect feedback from African stakeholders
  • Monitor and report on TICAD-related news/articles in African media
  • Assist in preparing meeting materials, summaries etc. related to the TICAD process

The role involves strengthening TICAD partnerships, advocacy, knowledge management and communication between UNDP, Japan and African partners for enhancing the TICAD initiative on African developmen
