🎯 Position Overview: Investment Officer – Manufacturing, Agribusiness & Services (MAS), Africa

IFC is hunting for a couple of superstar Investment Officers to become a part of its vibrant Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) squad in Africa. One of those positions will be at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and the other one at Maputo, Mozambique.

These posts are of utmost importance to the increase of IFC’s investment portfolio in the sectors, those that are most significant to the economic transformation of Africa, i.e., the manufacturing, agribusiness, light industry, retail, tourism, healthcare, and education.

The person who will be our best contender is an experienced investment expert who has fully demonstrated deal origination, structuring, negotiation, and portfolio management skills in the area of complex private-sector transactions. You will be a leader in two fields: conducting high-impact investments and playing a part in the strategic sector development throughout Eastern and Southern Africa.

Your superiors will be the Regional Industry Managers for Manufacturing and Services in IFC’s Africa region, and you will have a joint report to them.

📌 Key Responsibilities

🔄 Deal Execution & Portfolio Management

  • Conduct all stages of investment transactions, i.e., origination, due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and closing of debt, equity, and mezzanine financing.
  • Ensure that portfolio companies under your care perform well in both financial and developmental impacts.
  • MD implementing and thoroughly analyzing the creditworthiness, risk, and finances of new and continued tasks.
  • Develop innovative financial instruments that align with the client’s and the market’s characteristics.
  • Execute deep sectorial research and proactive outreach to build a robust pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities.
  • Launch and execute sector-specific strategies for manufacturing, agribusiness, and services in Africa.
  • Work together with IFC’s global teams in Washington, DC, and regional offices to ensure that investment goals are aligned with development priorities.
  • Engage with private sector clients, financial institutions, government agencies, and multilateral partners to build a strong relationship network.
  • Offer strategic advisory to clients on growth, governance, and sustainability.
  • Speak on behalf of IFC at various high-level forums, conferences, and investor roundtables.
  • Become a sector-specific thought leader in areas such as: Manufacturing: Building materials, chemicals, consumer goods, light manufacturing Services: Tourism, retail, real estate, health, and education

  • Stimulate the watering of climate-friendly and inclusive business models.

  • Work with the ESG, technical assistance, and advisory teams in order to provide solutions that are integrated.
  • Observe and ensure compliance with the environmental and social standards of IFC.

✅ Brief Profile & Background

Education Holding:

  • The candidate holds an advanced degree, such as a master’s or an MBA, in finance, business administration, economics, or a similar field.
  • Professional certification holders (e.g., CFA, CA, ACCA) are given the highest preference.

Work Experience:

  • At least 5–8 years of related experience in private equity, investment banking, or development finance structuring and carrying out of complicated debt/equity transactions portfolio management of emerging markets
  • Private equity, investment banking, or development finance
  • Structuring and executing complex debt/equity transactions
  • Portfolio management in emerging markets
  • Have a proven track record in manufacturing, agribusiness, and service sectors in Africa.
  • Experience with small and medium enterprises, mid-cap firms, or large corporates operating in the frontier markets.

Technical & Professional Competencies Exceptional leadership, teamwork, and mentorship skills Strategic planner with analytical and decision-making skills Capacity to perform well in challenging situations and multitask effectively

Language & Travel:

  • Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Portuguese or French would be very beneficial.
  • The candidate should be prepared to travel frequently throughout the region.
